Most snails are hermaphrodites. This means that they are both male and female. All hermaphroditic snails can lay eggs. They can "mate" with themselves and thus only one can reproduce in an aquarium or pond. They also breed sexually as often as possible. Most snails lay eggs but some, like the trapdoor snail, give live birth. Trapdoor snails and a few other species of snails (apple, golden inca, four horned, etc.) are not hermaphrodites. They can only reproduce sexually.

Snails are hemafradites meaning each snail has both mail and female reproductive organs. snails spend hours joined together moving around each other producing mucus on the underside of a tree and excreting thick mucus they then hang from a string of this mucus and mid air a penis comes out the right hand sides of the snails and goes onto the other snails left hand side when all is done they disconnect from the mucus rope and drop to the ground.

You've been given the right answer already. They are hermaphrodites so have both male and female parts. I did a dissertation on them and videod the process. They come together at night, find a mate, get onto their sides and curl together in a 69 position so that their bottom parts are touching. This is when the actual mating process takes place. Shells remain intact. Eggs are laid after (look like mini cod-liver oil capsules).

Darn... someone got in the CORRECT answer !!

AND someone beat me to the funny answer !!

Reminds me of the joke out at Ft Irwin in California where they had to create a 4 acre "compound" to keep the local endangered tortoises safe... they called it the "Tortoise Bordello".

The JOKE was one person would say "IN".. and another person after waiting about 15 seconds would say "OUT".

they are hermaphroditic, the shells stay where they are ;) they put out tubes to each other that fertilise the eggs.

They then lay their eggs in your most wonderful, beautiful plants and when they hatch they deour it for you!
