definently thrush.....heres some info:
Thrush is an infection in the mouth caused by a yeast-like organism called Candida albicans. This condition is most common in newborns, who may develop it around 7 to 10 days after birth. Infants may get this infection from their mothers during delivery because this organism is frequently found in the vagina.
If your baby develops white spots that look like milk curd on the insides of the cheeks or on the tongue, this may be thrush. These spots often bleed if you try to scrape them off. Thrush can make your baby’s mouth sore. It can sometimes causing feeding problems.
The same yeast infection can cause persistent diaper rash. Some babies have the infection both in their mouth and on their bottom. Thrush also can spread to your breasts if your baby is breastfed. Rarely, a yeast infection can spread and cause a dangerous, widespread infection in babies with weakened immune systems.
Call your baby's doctor if you think your baby has thrush. Although mild cases often clear up on their own, many babies need treatment with antifungal medications. These medications are usually applied to the infected areas with a dropper or with your finger after a feeding. A baby with a yeast infection in the diaper area can be treated with an antifungal ointment following diaper changes.
If your baby develops thrush and you are breastfeeding, you may want to use the same antifungal ointment to help prevent passing the infection back and forth between your breast and your baby’s mouth. You can continue breastfeeding during treatment.

That is indeed Thrush. My baby had that within the first couple months and it started on the tongue then moved to the inside of the cheeks. It caused my child not wanting to eat and vomiting from time to time. If you are breast feeding then U most likely have it on your nipples as well, where the baby puts his mouth. Ur nipples will become white and cracked, and really hurt if not treated. If u are bottle feeding him then U will need to buy him new nipples or boil them for 15-30 minutes while treating him so he doesnt continue to get it or in case it doesnt go away. The doc will prescribe u some medicine to give him that u will insert in the inside of his cheeks. U will prob need to rub some on your niopples also if breastfeeding or u will give it back to him. While treating him make sure after every feeding u boil his nipples, its so important so he doesnt continue to get it. Good Luck!

From the way you are decribing it,yes it is normal. The formula or breast milk builds up on the tongue. You need to start whiping his tongue off with a very clean washrag.I use to boil washrags for that reason.Even if washrag is washed in washer it holds bacteria in it that can cause thrush. It just sounds like his tongue needs whiping. Now if he has white or red patches on his tongue, gums or roof of the mouth then you need to be concern because that is thrush. With thrush if you wipe it with a rag it will bleed. Also bleeds during feedings and is painful. He is gagging because that is spoiled milk staying on his tongue.

White stuff in on the tongue, means accumulation of rotten stuff in stomach - means constipation. It is because of over dosage of milk feeding. Immediately after the delivery the breast milk will be very thick and is hard to digest for the babies. They will have loose motion. Give small feed of breast milk when ever the baby wants/cries. In between give 2/3 teaspoon full of boiled water. It will neutralise and the stomach stuff will come out and white stuff on the tongue to be wiped with a very soft and clean cloth. It will come of.
In case of o imporvement in 3 o4 days show to doctor

it is probably thrush, a yeast infection newborns usually get; catch it early and there is no problem, let it linger and you can have problems. you did a good thing making a doc appointment, you will get an Rx, just give it as directed. here is a link that will explain everything. have a wonderful day and enjoy your new baby!!!! Get the Dr to tell you! Sounds like a yeast infection or something.
Everyone brings their first baby back to the hosp or dr in the first few weeks with something they are not sure about!
