It has Rob Lowe and Jodi Foster in it and it was made in like 1989 or something, I found it in my college library last night and I saw it had Rob Lowe and I was like oh I have to see it, but when I got it home and watched it, him and his sister in the movie (Jodie Foster) slept together, it sickened me, has anyone else seen this , movie and what did you think of it?

"The Hotel New Hampshire" has always been my favorite of John Irving's novels, and I thought that the movie version was pretty decent. Beau Bridges was excellent as the father, and I remember what a shock it was when Nastassia Kinski was cast as "The Bear," a role that required her to be somewhat less than her glamorous self.
As for the incestuous relationship...I can't really argue with anyone who was turned off to the film (or the novel) for that reason; it's pretty edgy stuff. BUT...Irving's novels always have to do with HIGHLY unconventional families, so I can't say that it was really out of character for him. I've read all of Irving's novels, and it's pretty clear that his own youth was shaped by some VERY odd familial and sexual relationships...accordingly, those are some of the prevalent themes in his books. He's wildly popular...but he's not for everyone.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book several times. John Irving is one of my favourite authors and I think it's a great book.
As for the incest... well, I wouldn't want to do it myself of course, but I do think that's the purpose of movies and books: to show us a life or a point of view that we would otherwise not get a glimpse into.
