My daughter was born at 33 weeks gestation. There are some complications, but 33 weekers have a good chance... the longer the baby "cooks" in your tummy, the better off it will be. Mine was 4.14 when she was born.
The main complication is lung maturity. If they know you are going to go early, they will give you two shots of Breatheene (dexamethazone) to mature your baby's lungs. Most of them have problems with the suck-swallow-breathe reflex, in that they can't do all three at the same time, but can manage each one individually.
She is great now, 6 months old, 17 pounds and smart as a whip! Make sure you are taking Expecta Lipil... it really helps your baby's brain mature so that he will be able to handle the outside world and its challenges better
Good luck with your little one!

Why are you feeling like your not going to make it past 33-36 weeks? Just because you are measuring big makes no difference on when you will go into labor.I always measured 2-3 weeks bigger then i should have. You also have to remember that those scans for weight are not on point. They calculate within a one pond lower or higher then the actual weight. If your water breaks or you have consistant contractions thats when you start thinking you may have an early dellivery. Having your child this early can affect him.If your doctor thinks you might go into labor for some reason then they would have you admitted in the hospital right now giving you a mag. iv to stop your contractions. (surfactin) is the steroid shot you would be given in order to halp your baby's lungs to better expand when hes born.Do you see what i'm saying? Being 9 pounds is normal for some babies. I had a lady that gave birth to a 13 pound baby. You need to keep your baby inside as long as possible, your doctor will determine if the baby is safe,if the baby has complications then after 36 weeks they may decide to do a section, but if the baby is healthy then they will keep you pregnant till you are due,or maybe a week before if you are lucky. If the baby is too big you just will not be able to have a vaginal birth. Chances are he will be a large baby, going by the fathers birth weight. Having an early baby puts your child at risk of many things, the thing that is the main issue is that his lungs are developed. It doesn't matter how big your baby is he still needw the same amount of time inside as a small baby does to develope properly. My guess is your doctor will put you on bed rest if he/she thinks you may have an early labor, and this early on at 32 weeks you would be in the hospital to be monitored.

I had my second child, a boy, at 36 weeks and 2 days. He was only 6 pounds 3 ounces but he was perfect. He cried and was pink and everything. He went home from the hospital the next day with me. I was not given any steroids to try and make sure his lungs were developed or anything although if you have a baby before 37 weeks they do give you antibiotics when you are in labor. He came early due to toxemia and his older sister was born at 41 weeks so we had no idea this was going to happen. Good luck your baby should be fine.

I've heard that at 33-36weeks what your baby still needs is a little more lung developing (maturity) time. So, some babies born at these weeks need assistance breathing the firsts days or weeks, depending on the condition of each baby. There are babies born at 35-36 weeks that don't need special care at all. Just have faith that everything will go fine, think possitive and I do hope you get some more weeks before giving birth. Good luck to you, I hope everything goes well.

Obviously the longer in utero, the better. My son is going to be 5 in december. He was born at 36 weeks. He was a tiny one though...just over 6 pounds. Still is tiny. Anyway....my water began to leak on Christmas day that year, and I waited until opur day of celebrating was done (don't do what I did...) and then went to the hospital. My labor never started...they had to induce me. The only issue we had with him was a bit of jaundice. Have you discussed this with your doctor? If you feel this is truly the case, you could request they do a fetal fibronectin test. This is a vaginal swab that will show a chemical or something that shows up when delivery/labor is usually within 2 weeks. It's not cheap I hear, but I am thinking I will end up with one myself. I'm high risk for early delivery. This test could be done, and if negative, seldom is it wrong in showing the delivery is not imminent. As for hubby....mine was big too...like 10 pounds if I remember what I heard. OUCH!!! My biggest child was a girl born naturally...as in NO DRUGS...and not by choice. She was 9lb 6.5 oz. I am a little thing...about 106 before pregnant and 5'3". No more big babies for me!!! LOL!!! I'll sign for c-section....been there, done that one already...
Good luck to you! Check with your OB about that test....it can help you plan ahead or maybe relieve any fears.

My baby was born at 36 weeks she did have some complications and spent 7 days in the NICU but she is now a happy healthy 15 month old. She is behind in everything she does but i just do not worry she goes at her own pace and her growth is fine. My veiw point is that she will not go to kindergaten crawling. She sat at 9 months and crawled at 1 year and she is still not walking.

My neice was born at 35 weeks, she had a few complications but she was also small. If you can hold off until 37 38 weeks even better. My son was born early through induction at 38 weeks due to his large size, and everything was fine.He was 10 lbs 12 oz and I am tall but very narrow hips and I did it naturally! Good luck

Any time after 36 weeks is considered full term. You and the baby will be fine. My son was 8lbs and 10oz at birth, and my doctor told me he would me small and he is just fine. As long as he is is over five lbs you don't need to worry.

why don't you feel like you're gonna make it? cuz you think the baby is big? he'll come when he comes. yeah, my husband was about 10lbs when he was born, i was worried too. and, when my son was born, the doctor thought he weighed more than he did. i'm talking when he came out, so their guess for weight could just be off. my son was about 8 lbs. thoughts? have an epidural. it was great for me.

after 35 weeks, ur baby is generally considered ready to come out.
if ur planning a vaginal birth, a larger full term baby might be a problem, esp if ur small built, but u really need to talk to the doc
