Reinstalling the operating system will clear the drive of any viruses. When installing, be sure and delete any existing partitions on the drive and do a full format using the NTFS files system. After the operating system installs, go to free.grisoft.com and download their FREE antivurs software. Yes, it is completely free and it works well. Keep the virus definitions up to date and I also recommend running spybot and adaware as well. I run all of these regularly and my system is still clean after over a year of use.

Yes, if you reinstall Windows XP and pick the FORMAT function during the process, the virus will be GONE.
Be sure to install an Anti-virus program right away. Be smart about using your computer. Your brain works very well as an anti-virus program too.
Good luck

Hey,
Yes you can, But you will loose all data that is on the same partition (by default this is drive c:\ ) as your current windows installation. If you want to be sure all bogus programs are removed, when the setup screen asks you to format the drive go for a normal format. So do not select the faster option.

No, you need to buy a good virus package and run it. After you get rid of virus then you are set to reinstall. Or take the hard drive back to the store and get another? If it has been less than 14 days at most stores you can exchange - tell them the truth though. You don't want someone else catching your cold.

yes you can. be sure you do a full install to FORMAT the drive to clean EVERYTHING off. That will get the virus. Be sure to get some antivirus on your system, keep it up to date and pay your annual subscription to keep you protected.

Of course if you know how to reinstall everything then you can go ahead.
This said, you should learn to protect yourself and your computer against viruses and spyware. Get AVG, the most popular free antivirus as well as their very good free antispyware at: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free
And please avoid going on sites which infect you repeatedly. We should learn from our errors.
