SOPHIE BARKER - LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

Since I've never seen the BA advertisement, I can't tell you whether or not that version is in fact the "original" one you to which you refer. (Not long ago, someone on Y!A asked about a guy singing "American Pie", and she thought Madonna's version was the original. Obviously she was very young.)

"Leavin' on a Jet Plane" was written and originally recorded by the late John Denver. Not long thereafter, it was also a hit for the great folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary.

Peter Paul and Mary had a hit with it first in 1969, John Denver wrote it in 1967, he also recorded it, an American singer/songwriter, ironically he died while piloting his won light aircraft, it ran out of fuel and crashed in California in 1997
