The moon is also called a natural satelite.
Moons orbiting relatively close to the planet on prograde orbits (regular satellites) are believed to have been formed out of the same collapsing region of protoplanetary disk that gave rise to its primary. Most irregular satellites (orbiting on distant, inclined, eccentric often retrograde orbits) are thought to be captured asteroids possibly further fragmented by collisions. Many special scenarios exist, including origin in a break-up of the planet. For example, in the case of Earth's Moon, a portion of the planet itself might have been blasted into orbit by a large impact. A very different scenario required to explain the origin of the large Neptunian satellites: circular but retrograde orbit of Triton and extremely eccentric but prograde orbit of Nereid.
Our moon produces the tides of oceans , prevents floods.

so that we can fly to the Moon
and walk on it
so that a cow can jump over it
so that we can make moonshine ,
be moonstruck
to give werewolves a day to have fun
to make women crazy,as it affects them strong ly with their menstrual cycle ,which in fact is also a water flow
ask any hospital and they will all tell you that with a full moon a lot of people go crazy, lots of murders accidents etc.
hence the legend of werewolves
to get Moonbeams to put in a jar
to create the possibilities for religions like moonies

Apart from that the moon affects all water flows on the planet ,including the blood in our bodies, the sap of the trees, the ocean and river currents
the force is so strong that the currents in the rivers are reversed with the monthly life cycle ,at full moon they spread outwards
and with a new moon they go towards the middle (loggers have always known this because with a new moon the logs float happily in the middle of the river downstream and with a full moon they bump into the sides
And finally the force of the moon that plays against the force of the sun is responsible for the tides in the oceans
thiw springs to mind imediatly but i am sure there is a lot more

Moon is a natural satellite of the Earth and it uses the sun's light to shine. It revolves around the Earth just as Earth revolves around the Sun.
Moon exists because it was destined to and there is no logical reason behind its existence but if you want me to give a fantasy answer, then I have atleast 1001 ideas making rounds in my head.

Don't know if this contributes any, but many believe that when the Moon broke off from the Earth (if it did) it left the Pacific Ocean in its place. Pretty interesting tidbit, I think.

The moon is one asteroid sucked into earths orbit. Just a moment in time an asteroid got close enough to us to be sucked in. No purpose.
