For some reason stores always like to stay a season ahead. I work at Michaels craft store and we start getting a few Christmas items in July it is ridiculous if you ask me. By the time the holiday actually comes we are almost sold out of what customers need.

It's because the earlier they get the merchandise out there, the more they are likely to sell. By putting the stuff out, people are likely to pick up a little bit here and there to stock up thinking they are saving time and money by buying it early. A lotof people are done with Christmas shopping by the weekend after Thanksgiving, so it seems like a way to make sure that they have offered some kind of sale to everyone and are able to get the most money out of it. I'm sure befoer Christmas is over, there will be Valentines stuff out and then Easter and so on. It's just a never ending advertisment in the stores.

Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year. It is the largest money maker for stores, so they concentrate on Christmas hardcore. They use the Christmas stuff to replace all the summer stuff. That is why you can find alot of stuff on clearence right now. People (belive it or not) start buying for Christmas now, that way it won't sneak up on them, and they don't have to get all their stuff at once. Most people don't have the money for that. Stores order in so much Christmas stuff, they need time to sell the stuff they have to replace it...so they are essentially slowly replacing the stuff they have to prepare for the season.

Most retail stores (Wal-Mart for example) gets their holiday merchandise in August. There's only so much room in the warehouse, so it needs to come out to the sales floor.

I, for one, hate the crowds and start shopping in September/October and try to get done by Thanksgiving so I can just enjoy the holiday free of stress and crowds!

Because their just selfish. Shops want to put everything together at once to get more money, and this makes everyone forget the real meaning of christmas. Just greed and being selfish, thats why.

Same reason they have Valentines stuff out right after Christmas, and Easter stuff right after Valentines. They all want to cash in on commercialism.

okay, with the shopping frenzy that already ensues after thanksgiving...maybe we could allot a little time for people who like to christmas shop calmly.
