The answer should be that you confront the people that are talking. Many would say ignore them. I try to gain an understanding of the person that is talking. Is it from lack of self confident/jealousy? for examples. From there I choose how I am going to react. I will always attempt to take an action that is positive, but being that I am human sometimes I just tell them off.

Well first of all you kind of have to just slough it off.i mean seriously if they are talking about you they are leaving someone else alone.Plus the saying all publicity is good publicity ..that goes for bad mouthing too.So who cares if someone is bad mouthing you.The fact that they are talking about you shows that they have some interest in you,so make light of it and smile when you see them cause that is gonna get under their skin worse than anything.

I would confront them in the most calm way possible...If you don't confront them they will continue to bad mouth you and you will only grow more annoyed by it as time goes on

I would confront them in a sly way where i kinda bring up the info to them, make them uncomfortable and just kinda fish it out of them from there.

Confront them and ask them what the heck is going on. Just be upfront and see how macho they are.
I bet next time they wont do it.
