I also had that question, and I am from the U.S. First you have to see it as the land of opportunity. Because of the great opportunities available in the U.S., anyone can succeed on their own hard work and sacrifice.
I learned this while I was outside the U.S. I visited countries (for years at a time, not just a week) and saw how people work 14 hours a day and cannot get ahead because of incredible high taxes, or because the law only allowed natural citizens to progress after certain level.
U.S. does not apply restrictions depending on where you come form. Anyone can own a business for example. I visited a country were only citizens could own a business. If you were just a resident, you had to partner up with a local and give up 51% of the business. By law you were not allowed to owe more than 49%. This is just an example. I am sure many others are going to say all the negative things they can think of; but the point is that when compared to the rest of the world, there are many more opportunities and freedoms in the U.S. than anywhere else. It may not a be a perfect system, but it is one of the best ones around.
For those that say that it sucks, why don't you go to another country to live? And I mean for years at a time, not just for vacation where you do not really get to see the reality of other countries. After a while, I would like to here you say how it is so bad in the U.S. Also, this does not apply to the rich people out there, because when you are rich, it doesn't matter where you live; you will always have a good time.

The American Dream is not actually a dream. It is an ideal. It is about living in a land of freedom. You can go to whatever Church you want, marry whomever you want, live where ever you want, go to whatever school you want, eat what you want, shop where you want, vote for whomever you want...it's just about being free...

Somehow we always find what we seek. Make it special and it will be special. Look for its faults, and you will be sure to find them, too.
