my brother just gave his girlfriend a calteral ring ( sorry dont know how to spell it) and he said that giving an irish girl the ring was a huge deal, almost like a promise ring but more. is this true because i see people wearing these rings all the time even when they arent in a really serious relationship like my brother is.

It is as big as a deal as you make it, if they think it is a big deal then it is, if it presented as something as less then a big deal then it isnt.

If he makes it a big deal when he gives it, than it is! I know a lot of people wear them but not everyone has the same purpose behind them. I think what your brother has done is very sweet.

The rings are given either from parent to child or from sweetheart to intended. If given by a parent the crown faces outward. If given by a lover, the crown faces the heart to show the person is taken or promised.

All that matters is what it means to the 2 of them. It sounds like he's serious with this girl.

The ring is as important as the guy and girl decide it is - they decide how serious it is and what it means.
