Because this is not our real home. We are in Mays' territory or the land of illusion. You must be looking for reality and if you are you are the most intelligent person. You can live in reality though in this world. It is called being transcendental to material existence. There are many books in the Vedic Literature which will show you how to do this which gives one unlimited happiness. Read Dharma The Way of Transcendence by Swami Prabhupada Which tells everyone eternal occupation and how to find your propensities in this world.
