Some major events were, well just go to wikipedia, but some were, the german invasion of poland, german invasion of france and the low countries, battle of britain, german invasion of the soviet union, pearl harbor, el alamain(not spelled corectly), battle of Stalingrad, battle of Midway, Battle of the Coral Sea, battle of Kursk, battle of Leyte Gulf, Battle Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Manilla, Invasion of Normandy, Operation Market Garden, Battle of the Bulge, Crossing of the Rhine, Destruction of the Ruhr, and the Battle of Berlin. Alot of those are not in order just off of the top of my head.

There was one in particular, that being the Battle of El Alamein in the North African Campaign. Up to that point the Germans had never lost a battle and afterwards never won one. In the Nurenburg Trials Goering said that Hitler privately believed that the War was lost with the D Day Landings on 6th June 1944 although publicly he preached victory until the defeat in May 1945 and his subsequent suicide. In the far East the sea battle, the Battle of the Midway was considered the turning point in the war against Japan.
