Are you sure it even has a burner? If so, many things can cause it not to burn. For instance, some burners will only except certain types of blank media such as DVD-R. You will also find that bargain basement blanks are not what they are cracked up to be, I have found as many as 30 percent of the blanks were defective! I finally got smart and bought name brand! Saved me money in the longrun! You will also find copywrite protection is at its best nowdays!

First u will need to check if the drive is a CD Writer/DVD ROM combo drive. Check ur manual.
Next, check this:
Open My Computer.
right click on the DVD drive icon, select Properties.
If the drive is a burner, u will find the Recording tab. Click on it.
Check if the option "Enable recording on this drive" is checked.
Click Ok and try to burn the CD.

make sure you have the appropriate software loaded, and make sure you have a rw drive rather than a read only drive. If you aren't sure how to tell you can test without burning software by copying and pasting the file you want to burn to your dvd drive in my computer, then browse to the drive and open, on the left side is will say burn or copy files to disc.

make sure u are dealing with a cd/dvd burning drive cd/dvd +/-r or rw NOT a cd/dvd rom because that only reads and plays cd/dvd's it doesn't burn them.

Try reinstalling driver. You may need a cd burning program like nero or sonic.

is the drive supposed to be able to burn? if it is just a rom, it will only read not burn the discs...if it is supposed to burn try thier options (i have a reader, but no burner...used it to save money on my laptop)

Does it have a CD-RW? If not, you need to get one and install a CD burner software.
