My friend wants to be a handyman, he wants to paint and do some light work around the house, anyone can let me know what essential tools he needs and any site that he can learn from.

With respect to answer about my friends handyman skills, he is vey skilled, he just doesn't have the means to buy the tools, I'm in a computer field, I just want to do a friendly thing by buying him his supplies, I figured if I spend about a $100-$150 I can atleast get him started so he can make a living.

Why not get him a gift certificate to Lowe's or Harbor Freight Tools and let him decide. It might be a good idea to be able to buy the tool he needs when he needs it, otherwise you could spend a mint and still miss that tool that he needs in a pinch.

he wants to be a handyman but has no tools or skills for repairing stuff ?? then why would he think him being a ''handyman'' would be a good choice ?? he doesnt sound all that handy , and he doesnt even own any tools ?? he is at a seiroius disadvantage, all the handymen I know are just that, real handy at doing things , they know what tools they need and they know how to fix stuff . Just being a handyman isnt really a career choice it is something that you just end up becoming, because you have many skills in the home repair arena ....... tell him good luck .

Hammer, saw, a small tool kit with pliers, screwdrivers, tape measure, flash light, cheap drill & bits for now. You can pick all this up for less than a hundred bucks. There are a lot of cheaper tool kits with practicly all the above tools in it cheap. Shop around. As he earns money he can up grade & get more.

First of all the brushes you buy him should be good ones. Other than that a good hammer, pliers, screw drivers, these you need to get ones also, otherwise you just round out the screws. A level and a stud finder would also be good. A battery operated drill and some bits. He will also need a saw, tape measure and square. A utility knife is also handy.

Hammer, drill, screwdriver set, step ladder, regular ladder, flash lite, plumbing wrenches, plumbers tape, paint brushes. It might be good if he carried some nails and screws in different sizes. He might want to carry masonry bolts if the area he will be working has older houses with brick walls. He should also carry his own extension cords and plumbing buckets.
That should get him started.
