My best friend wants to get pregnant. She has been with her boyfriend for 4yrs and doesnt use any kind of protection. She is 27yrs old, 5ft tall and weighs 210lbs...She is a big girl for her height. She has a lil boy and he is 8yrs old she got pregnant very quickly with him. She hasnt had a pap like in 2yrs. Everytime i suggest getting on a diet or going to the Dr.'s she kinda get irritated with me. Also he periods are kinda weird. And i swear she thinks she is pregnant like every month. Someone told me it could possibly be polyovarian syndrom or something like that. I dont know what to tell her anymore...anyone know what this could be?

Ask her doctor about her thyroid. She might have hypothyroidism, it casues your metabolism to slow, your periods can be off and very abnormal, and it also has a number of other symptoms. Most doctors don't even notice it, or know about it. It occurs msotly in women who are middle aged, but can really happen to anyone. It will make you sluggish, and unhappy (depressed).

In any case, all it takes is a blood test to measure her T3 and T4 levels in her blood. If she does have this problem, she could gain a significant amount of weight in short periods of time, and it will be EXTREMELY difficult to lose (3x more difficult per pound than an average person, imagine that!)

This sounds alot like me. 26yrs old 5ft1" and weigh 200lbs. I don't have any kids. I have been with my boyfriend for about 3yrs and not using protection for 2 yrs. No luck on getting pregnant. I am hearing the same things you are telling your friend, but i am trying to lose. So very interested if that is the problem or if any one has any other ideas.

Considering she is overweight, obese by BMI standards (Hers is 41, 25-29.9 is considered overweight, anything over 30 is obese) it is imperative that she lose weight. Her weight is probably contributing to why her periods are so messed up. She must get medical advice from a GYN and get a PAP. Two years is TOO long to go without one, especially if you're trying to get pregnant.

Body fat produces it own hormones, including excess estrogen -- like taking birth control pills without doing it.

All you can do is be a good friend. She knows she need to lose weight. Maybe she'll check out a few diets and find one that works for her. I prefer quick weight loss like Kimkins, but she might like slower loss with Weight Watchers.

well it could be that she is trying to hard. sometimes you just need to relax and let god do his work. and sometimes that works and you can get pregnant when you arent trying so hard. but as for her being a little over weight you need to see if she will try to start walking with you or taking her child to the park with her . or maybe yall could join a gym together , because sometimes when you have someone to go with it makes it easier. good luck to both of you sweetie!
