Please ignore the answer about 'if you don't get picked before your GCSE's'. I played pro football in England for 4 years in my early 20's. I was good as a kid had 'trials' at 5 clubs and wasn't deemed good enough. I was devastated but as I loved playing I just carried on for my local club, playing at as high a level as I could. Two days after my 19th birthday I was approached my a local club asking if I would be interested in going to train with them - of course I was!! To cut a long story short 6 weeks later I signed full professional terms and played 180 games in the old English 2nd division.
At the end of the day tell him not to listen to the people telling him that he isn't good enough just make sure he enjoys it. If he is good enough he will be found. It is not all about young kids being spotted as babies and groomed by the so called big clubs. Wish him luck - and I expect a ticket when he makes his 1st team debut!!

If you're good enough they will find you, there are thousands of scouts around the UK watching lads from the age of 8-16.

If your cousin plays for a team and is good enough he'll get approached. If he hasn't by the time he takes his GCSE's I'm afraid he's not good enough.

It's like being a concert pianist you don't apply for it, it happens to you.
