I have been going to this site to get info regarding whether or not some of the forwards that I get are hoaxes or not. Then a co-worker asked me how do I even know if this site is for real or not?

Definitely legit. I send people to it when they send me forwards. It usually has good up to date information on what is made up and what is true and what is a combo of the two.

Yes, it's a legit website and got the "green" light from McAfee's Site Advisor here http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/snopes.com?ref=safesearch&aff_id=0&suite=false

If I want accurate information I go to a library. After all a books take a lot more time and more money then web sites and almost anyone can have a web site up within hours some say minutes.

If you have ever received chain e-mail or requests to "send this to all your friends" in support of a nine-year-old cancer victim who wrote a poignant letter to God asking to relieve the hungry people in Africa, or, an offer to win millions of dollars from a citizen of Nigeria, but you need to put up some front cash in order to set up a bank account, then you need a web site like Snopes to determine if it is a hoax or not. It is a legit site. Use it before you forward any seemingly compelling cry for help.

Snopes is an absolutely legit site that has been researching internet hoaxes from a very long time.

It has an impeccable reputation and is respected in the IT & Business Community.

Cheers.

It's the one I trust because they actually take the time to research the urban legends instead of trying to give some geeky answer about why they don't "think" it could be true.

Sometimes you can get the most complete answer by checking BOTH Snopes and truthorfiction.com - personally I prefer Truth or Fiction, but it can be helpful to see how both report their results.

Yep, it's legit! I use it all the time to burst my friends' bubbles on all those e-mails. Did one today on the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe! :-)
