I had a squirrel die behind my pantry wall. It smelled so bad I had to stay with my parents for two weeks. The smell will finally diminish after the carcass goes through the rotting stage. If it is during the summer months the decay is quicker and the smell is much stronger. You can make an opening in the wall or let nature take it course. Try using an absorbing material such as volcanic rock or backing powder etc to absorb odors. Vinegar is also good as a cover up. Open up the windows to air things out as much as possible. Good luck!

to catch the rats, you should have borrowed a friends dog, who's a natural rat hunter (ex. schnauzer, RAT terrier... almost all terriers, ect.), that way, all the rats would be gone (if you could place a trap some where, a dog can get there), and you wouldn't have the smell... I feel bad for you there, but all i can say is... its gonna smell for a while there... Once my dog, (who's a rat terrier) killed this raccoon that had got into our attic, and we couldn't find the body, but our attic smelt sooooooo bad, and it soon stunk up the whole house :/ Good luck with the motor home of yours

I would call an extermination company and ask what they use. The first thing that came to mind to me was "lime".
