Hi. These questions are all the same with slight variations. Ignore driver names and cities. Forget about miles or kilometers. You have a starting point (zero) a distance or time traveled, and a choice of answers. Let's start with the first.

Alexander left Miami and drove at a speed of 46 mph. Thomas left 1 hour later and drove at a speed of 60 mph. How long will it take Thomas to catch up with Alexander?

Stripping the distractions out we are left with d=46 (the miles covered by the first driver in one hour at 46 MPH), v1 = 46 (speed of first driver), v2 = 60 (speed of driver 2). Can you figure it out from this?

#1
46(X + 1) = 60 X
46 X + 46 = 60 X
46 = 14 X
X = 3.29 Hrs

#2
46(X + 1.75) = 62 X
46 X + 80.5 = 62 X
80.5 = 16 X
X = 5.03 Hrs

#3
189 = 3 ( X + 2X)
189 = 9 X
X = 21 KPH

#4
133 = 1.22 ( 2X + 31 + X)
133 = 2.44X + 37.82 + 1.22X
95.18 = 3.66X
X = 26
so Megan is 2*26 + 31 = 83 KPH
