i think its a waste of tax dollars again.

"A fence will slow people down by a minute or two, but if you don't have the agents to stop them it does no good. We're not talking about some impenetrable barrier," T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council

"look jose theres a fence, damnit man we just walked 20 miles looks like we will turn around, damn fence!"

"Something needs to be done about all the illegals coming into our country , whether from the south or the north. Walls & fences are just symbals. They don't do any good. People go under, over, around & through them. The money is wasted. What we really need to do is ENFORCE the immigration laws we already have. Instead of spending tax money on a fence, it should be spent on having more (lots) personell & stronger penalties. It does cost money for enforcement, that is why I say that. " from mazelle

you forgot that over there they also blow your head off. you cant compare the 2

Although the Israeli/WestBank situation is totally different, their fence situation can tell us a lot. When Israel decided to build a defense across the West Bank several years ago to help prevent suicide-bombers entering Israel, many complained that it would be in no way effective (and when in combination with certain negatives, would be an overall negative). But it HAS been extremely effective. ...cutting as much as 80% of the cross-overs so far.

So, if done correctly--and in conjunction with surveillance and personnel on the ground--it can be effective, and probably will very significantly reduce the number coming across.

(Whether this is what *should* be done is a separate question.)

Not whats needed first! You have to deal with the EMPLOYERS first, after all they have been operating a business & not willing to pay legal citizens a fair wage! Seize all their assets auction off the property give them prison time, then when finished their prison term kick-em out to the country of orgin their workers are from! I say kick both employers & illegals out an invade Mexico next kinda like just before the civil war theaten their wealthy class! You got to fight back or be subverted!

It's a waste of money--put the fence around Bush, instead.

Forget Mexico, Americans could build a fence, on the northern boarder. Where are the terrorists from - not Mexico I can tell you that. Mexicans just want to work. Canadians are coming over the boarder in swarms, stealing our women and taking over jobs. Unlike the Mexicans, they speak English and are educated, so they are really taking the work away from average Americans. The US will never be a safe country till we block off the socialist, feeling form the north.

True, I think if we are to put up any kind of barrier there should be a wall like the one that surrounded the city of Troy.

At least five years too late. The immigration "hole" should have been plugged years ago!
