my family told me that at the time slaves were free they were quite angry at the damn northern yanks, because now they lost their workers and had to work themselves. How many of ya'll know that your actual ancestors held slaves from the south? Don't you think it was kind of awkard after they were free? Did the ***** people start to kill the whites now that they were off the shackles? People gotta learn to forgive and forget.

No, my family did not own slaves. We were confined to reservations.

Contrary to what most believe and what is currently being taught in school, the majority of southern people did not own slaves. There were as many northerners that owned slaves as there were southerners, this somehow gets omitted from history class. Slave ownership was reserved for the elite, otherwise known as the rich.

Strange enough, people fail to realize that slavery still exists today. No, Blacks are not slaves to the White man - but the poor are enslaved by the rich.

"Did the ***** people start to kill the whites " Are you f-ing kidding me!!!!

I doubt many stuck around to seek revenge, most probably just ran north or into the northern army. Some did stay (probably slaves that worked for small families as opposed to large plantations).

Something tells me more whites were killed by abolitionists and slaves BEFORE the civil war than after.

thank you.

My family was from Greenville , Tenn. They were very poor tobacco farmers and never had a slave , as a matter of fact , they gave some of the sons and daughters away to be slaves themselves , to help other more wealthy farmers and because they couldn't afford to feed them.

My family's considered white, mainly Irish, English and French, plus some Cherokee. My ancestors didn't have slaves - they were sharecroppers.

I don't know if they did or not but I'd be proud of them either way. At least back in the slave owner days the blacks were justified in complaining. These days I think many are lazy complainers with their "man be keepin' me down" attitudes.
