Just send them an invite! It's a great way to get to know them better, AND they'll give you presents! SCORE!

I moved into a house the month before I had my baby. I had my shower here and I know that neighbors were interested, but I already had 25 people coming over.
The ones that wanted to see the baby and give us a present showed up after the baby was born and we visited one on one. It worked for me.
But, if you feel like inviting them, it's up to you. I just didn't want them to feel pressured like I wanted a gift from them.

Really, a shower is a mandatory kind of gift giving event for friends and relatives to help out the needs of the baby. It would be a breach of etiquette to invite your neighbors whom you imply that you're just getting to know. If you mention the shower and one of them gushes "I just love showers!", then that would be the exception. It would be okay to offer them a piece of leftover cake after the event to get to know them. Those neighbors who really want to, will spontaneously give the baby a gift after its birth.

Start off by a nice Hello Mrs.__________ (wait for answer) if they ask how is everything going you take a chance to let them know about your baby shower and tell them that you would really like it if she/he could make it. Hand them an invitation smile cordially and tell them "ill see you there" and "end scene".

An invite would be a great way to get to know your neighbors. My wife and I were in this same situation, so when we invited our neighbors, we simply said that since we were going to raise our children here, it would be a nice idea to get to know each other (meaning our neighbors). The reasons being obvious, friendship, community, neighborly things.

Well you could look at it two ways. You can explain to them it's just close friends and family or invite them and get more gifts!

oh please, invite the whole neighborhood, the more the merrier. This means more support, more presents, and the chance to make more friends. If there interested, let them come, most likely they'll "forget".
