Why can't they just tell you in the most simple terms on what exactly will happen if it passes and what will happen if it fails?

here in ohio we are voting on smoking issues and both confuse me.

then we have this other issue about money going to schools, and they don't say that only 22% of it will go to the kids. why don't they tell you everything? is it so people will vote differently if they don't let everyone know what will happen?

it is designed that way, because they will have a low turnout, therefore the issues, bills etc. will be passed...that, and politicians are for the most part morons, so they have to over-compensate for it, by using big words, to feel better about themselves... Politics = Poli- meaning more than one Tics- Blood sucking parasites.... Vote Kinky Friedman!!

One word -- obfuscation.

If they explained the measure in simple terms, people would use their minds instead of their emotions when voting. Most measures are not really about what their title says, they are generally about guiding money to their proponents.

That's why most adds focus on feelings. Like babies and fuzzy animals to show one side and smoke filled rooms to show the other.

The issues simply ARE confusing. There is not necessarily a right or wrong answer. We often don't know the effects of a law.

I would check your source for the second issue and read the text of the propositions yourself.

I can help with the smoking one....issue 4 is the one that will be an amendment. It still will allow smoking in bars resturants etc. Issue 5 is the one that takes away smoking completly....If you don't want smokers around you vote yes on five only....If they both pass issue four trumps five.

The more confused you are the better they like it. If you are confused you are more likely to vote in a way which is bad for you and good for the special interests. Plain speaking does not win votes, they like to spin, then spin again.

cause they hope you'll give up in frustration, and just punch a button to vote for this or that. that way they have a 50/50 chance of winning. and you turn into an apathetic sheep.
