I was on the Depo for 5 years...I got off and went to pills 2 years ago..(my husband and I might start a family soon)
anyway, I loved it! NO periods!!!! some weight gain, but just stay on top of that...everyone's body id different, so you won't know until you try it. The only slight side effect was my arm hurt when I got shot in the arm, and I was a waitress at the time...so I had them give it to me in my hip :) and I could tell when it was close to the "renew" shot time (every 3 months) I new I needed my dose of hormones...my face would breakout (just like right before a period)
But it worked out well for me. I hope this helps!

I was on the depo for 1 1/2 years. Its great b/c you have NO REASON to worry about getting pregnant. But on the other hand i gained about 10-15 pounds over the year because of it. Its your choice really i think it was great and i would do it again if i was in a SEROIUS realtionship but not just being single i dont want all that weight back!!

I hated being on the depo. I got 2 shots and it still took me over a year and a half to get pregnant. I wouldn't advise anyone to get on the depo shot.

the dep. shot outcomes human beings in yet differently, some bleed throught the size they're on the shot, some spot right here and there, and a few have no classes in any respect. I although are not getting my era. and that i like it. I even have had 3 toddlers and characteristic been on the dep. after my 2d, for 2 yrs, and in basic terms started it back in could after having my third. although once you do attempt to concieve after depo, for some females it could take as long as 2 yrs to return to fertility, in my case it took me 5 months to get pregnant with my 0.33 after going off the shot.

I researched it a while back before I started birth control and found that a lot of women (I really mean a LOT) had undesired effects when stopping the shot. Some women who had only been on the shot for two shots to up to 3 years to conceive after stopping the shot. Also, my sister took it for a while and basically had a constant menses (although light) but very annoying. I suggest sticking to a birth control method that doesn't make your body act out of nature (keep the menses once a month). Best of luck!

I was on the depo shot for 9 yrs.. i loved it i didn't have to worry no periods .. yes it does make you bone weaker as you age but take calcium ... also you do gain a little bit of weight but a steady diet and exercise should take care of that.. and no you don't lose your sex drive contrary to what that guy said.( maybe his girl lost interest hum ??) it is safe not to worry... it takes a few weeks to a few months to completely leave your system when you get off,, but other than that it is fantastic

I loved the depo shot, except for the wait gain. I didn't have my period the whole time I was on it. My Dr. gave me wrong info on it and therefore I got pregnant. ( I went to get my shot and they asked if I had my period, I told them no, so they told me I had to wait until I had my period to get it. Needless to say I didn't have it for another 9 months.) The depo I think is good for people who are active and exercise regularly and who haven't children.

I took it for a year. Like Michael G's experience above, it meant no sex drive and weight gain for me.
Do a search online. You will find literally dozens of sites for the sole purpose of collecting Depo horror stories.
This stuff is poison. In my humble opinion it should be taken off the market!

I have been on depo for about a year and i like. I never gained any weight but i guess it woks different for everyone when it comes to the side effects. It also whiped out my period since I have been on it. I don't worry about getting pregnent at all with it.

DO NOT EVER GET THE SHOT>>> OMG!!!! ME AND 5 OF MY GIRLFRIENDS WENT AND GOT THE SHOT AT AGE 17. We were on the shot for 3 years. After 3 years 3 of us got off and 2 stayed on and recently got off... NONE OF US CAN CONCEIVE. Me and my 2 friends who got off after 3 years have ALL BEEN TRYING to conceive with our husbands for over 2 years... I've been trying for 3 years and NONE of us can conceive. Its devastating and they never told us this stuff but now I hear about it all the time how after using depo for ANY LENGTH OF TIME can stop you from EVER CONCEIVING. They said its a rare side effect but HOW IN HELL CAN THE 5 OF US WHO HAVE NOTHING ELSE IN COMMON ALL BE INFERTILE???? THEY lie!
