Think about it 2 months is only 8 weeks, some people work 5 days a week so thats only (for some) 8 shopping days!

It can be really hard for some people who have large families.

Because they are conditioned to do so and now it has become part of the Mine is better than yours rig ma roll. I know that it is a load of steaming manure but people like to brag for example some people go to Switzeland for the two week period some like me stay at home and have just as good a time. If I may brag here I don't drink, smoke or use recreational drugs and have the best time ever with my family.

One year I found myself singing

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
even in July."

I agree it's a bit crazed to think seriously about Christmas before Halloween. Most people don't, judging by the shopping surge after Thanksgiving.

But then, people here have given a lot of good answers: budgeting, not being over-whelmed, etc.

Since Christmas shopping accounts for most of store's business for the whole year, they have reason to encourage extending the shopping season. (But when they start playing xmass music early, it gets REALLY old by November ... let alone January, when they finally stop.)

For the same reason you just did? No really, yesterday someone came in my office and while she was signing in, she said "2 months from today, are you ready?" I wanted to slap someone!

I guess in this society, since time seems to move so much faster than it used to, people are trying to be prepared. The department stores all have Christmas stuff out and it's not even Halloween.....

Personally, I do my Christmas shopping in the last week before Christmas but a friend starts hers as soon as she is back from her summer holiday in August.

I'm already done buying for Christmas...and have everything wrapped and ready to go out ......now i just need to find boxes big enough to mail them off .....i shop throughout the entire year...always lots of sales and great deals ........i can't stand the mad rush, all the crowds and the traffic that takes forever to get through especially near the mall areas....it's bad enough that the closer it gets to Christmas the longer you will have to stand in line at the post office to get things mailed out to family

Because it's Christmas!!! The season of love, laughter, friends, drinks, visits, lights, presents, family, all the good stuff. Why not get excited early?

I've already got my Christmas cow hanging in my Jeep. He lives there every year.

cuz stores already have christmas stuff out so it makes ppl already think about christmas.... it seems each year christmas get started earlier and soon christmas will be a full year holiday and will soon lose the real meaning of christmas.

Its easier to shop for Christmas presents before all the stores are crowded? I already ask for lists from people so I can beat the crowds...

My Christmas club account gets dumped into my checking account October 1st.

I start shopping so I don't foolishly spend the money on other stuff.

Besides, I'd rather do a little shopping, here and there than be overwhelmed and do it all at once.
