My son does ok with his rice cereal but I dont think he cares so much for the taste so I was wondering how long I should wait before letting him try a new flavor that he may be more keen on.

Ignore the grits guy. You should not introduce corn products until after one year old to prevent allergic reactions.

You are supposed to wait a week after introducing a new food. I think most most people start with rice because the incidence of allergic reactions is almost nil, whereas some people do have reactions to oatmeal, wheat, etc. I haven't introduced oatmeal yet because I am trying to work my way through one box at a time, and I have rice opened right now.

We mix the rice cereal with formula to make the right consistency, and then mix that with an equal amount of Stage 1 baby foods, like Applesauce, Pears, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, etc to make it more palatable. Have you tasted it? VERY bland. It does need all the help it can get, lol...

Hi,
How old is your son? My pediatrician recommends that an infant be atleast four mos. old before starting any form of solids,(i.e. rice cereal), and start no later than 6 mos. , to prevent developing an aversion to solids. You are right to start with rice cereal, because it is single grain, and a lot less likely to cause allergy. Waiting five days is an ample amount of time before starting another cereal. If no allergy is noticed, (i.e vomiting, diahrea, wheezing, runny/stuffy nose, excessive crying),than it is safe to move on to barley cereal. Oatmeal should come next, and then wheat can follow. If everything goes well, then mixed cereals can come in to play. Adding baby food is not a good idea, if he has never eaten it before, because he could have an allergic reaction to the jar food and not the cereal, and it would be impossible to tell the culprit. Also, the cereals that have added fruits should be given after all other cereals have been introduced. They too should follow a five day trial period. *Remember that adding syrups or honey to infant cereals is dangerous! This could cause botulism. I hope this helped, and I wish you luck with your handsome baby boy.

Use what they call the 4-day wait rule. Introduce a new food for 4 days, after the 4 days eliminate the food for the next 7 days while you are introducing a new food for 4 days. So, every 4 days you can do a new food.

I've heard everything from 3-7 days. I think I waited about 5 days. My boys never liked infant cereal but they loved sweet potatoes.

Orange vegetables usually come first previously the golf green ones....yet fairly there is not any technological know-how to introducing meals. you could initiate with culmination or vegetables, would not count. My son began fruit first. The advice to beginning vegetables first is b/c culmination are candy and infants love candy culmination that can turn them off from the tasteless/bitter flavor of vegetables using fact they get carry of the flavor for the culmination and then purely choose for "candy" issues. the sole authentic "rule" for introducing new meals is....do no longer introduce better than one new foodstuff each and every 3-4 days. it extremely is to confirm there is not any hypersensitive reaction. for occasion....in case you provide bananas for the 1st time on the instant, do no longer provide the rest new till a minimum of thursday. this way if she has an hypersensitive reaction to bananas you would be attentive to it. in case you provide new meals back to back and an hypersensitive reaction occurs, you will no longer be attentive to which foodstuff brought about it. My son has not at all had a issue with rice cereal, so I caught with it, he's 7 one million/2 months and function been getting cereal on account that he became 2 months previous. i began culmination at approximately 3 months and vegetables around 4 months. Now at 7 one million/2 months he's eating fruit and cereal for breakfast and for dinner he gets a mix of meat and veggie and a lil fruit for dessert. in case your dr recommended solids, you're able to provide regardless of you need! in case you will initiate with vegetables I propose the orange ones using fact they seem to be a lil sweeter of a veggie and could entice the toddler somewhat better than the golf green ones. candy potatoes/carrots/squash are my son's favs. ultimate of luck!

you should wait at least 2 weeks inbetween introducing new foods so just in case your baby has an allergic reaction to the new food, it's easier to pinpoint the cause.

Oats are a high allergen food. Do not introduce oats until at least 12 months.

Usually you space them out long enough to see if he was to have a allergic reaction you can pinpoint which thing did it. I waited a few days

A week. Try no more than one new food a week. This way, if he has an allergic reaction, it's easier to figure out what it's to.
