The planner gets paid as a planner and a consultants gets paid to consults. Both are out to get money from you because you don't want to take the time to study which investments are best for you. Invests in things you want to invest in and pay someone to help you do your taxes.

There is no such thing as a certified financial consultant. You should hire a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) for you own finances. If you want to analze stocks for a company as a profession, you can work towards the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA). Those are the only two that really matter, other than the ubiquitous CPA.
