I would discuss it with my doctor/midwife. They will most likely tell you 6 weeks! That is their magical answer (been through 3 pregnancies/ births)
I would say wait at least 4, you will need some "down time" even if you don't "feel" physically tired or hurt. It is a good time to just relax and bond with the baby.
Congratulations on being self employed and able to work out of home! This is a dream of many women with young children.
Take it as it comes and see how you feel.

Can you leave the boyfriend??? Good Lord! You need to maybe work until you go into labor and take 2 weeks after the baby is born. Still, some doctors may not clear you to go back that soon with it being only being 2 weeks after giving birth. This is our 3rd. Two weeks after giving birth, I was still sore, I was still bleeding heavily. You need to rest. Not necessarily stay in bed as I didn't- but I did take a nap each day and was tired. You are HEALING. I also want to say that I don't get covered for maternity leave. I am getting a pay cut of $72.00 a day. I am a teacher. I had used all my sick time for the first 3 weeks of leave and am now on "Extended Leave". Absolutely ridiculous. I think America and it's issues with not having maternity leave is ridiculous. All that aside- October is a ways off yet and you are wise to consider this first. You don't know if you will need a C-section if the baby is positioned wrong. You don't know a lot about what will happen. I would talk to your boyfriend and boss and explain that you will need the 6 weeks off. At least 4 if not that. I wish I had a solution for you. Yes, it makes me angry. Worse, this sounds like your first baby. It rips your heart out when you need to leave them...trust me. Hugs! Edit: Folks, not everyone gets maternity leave. I am a TEACHER and I do not have it. It comes from your sick leave. Once you exhaust that, you are out of luck. They dock you a portion of your pay for each day you are out beyond what is covered in your sick leave. Heads-up. Check this before you have a baby- not every place gives maternity leave and FMLA is good but it is UNPAID.

legally 2 weeks but i would recomend that you take as long as you can afford too. Pregnancy, birth and being a new mum is hard work both physicaly and emotionaly and you need to rest and bond with the baby as much as possable at this time. If your not entitled to SMP you could be entitled to maternity allowance which is the same amount as SMP (about £100 a week) and for the same time period (6 months). you can find out more info at the following site
www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Dev_008115.xml.html
Hope this helps. Enjoy your new little one

If your self employed and your mum is helping. You can go back to work as soon as you feel up to it. Most other job it like 6-8 week until you can go back to work.

As soon as you feel well enough - you should still be able to claim SMP even if you are self employed (as long as you have paid the minimum NI contributions)
You'll be shattered for the first few weeks though so I'd play it by ear
Good Luck with your new baby xx

well if you had a c section then give yourself time to heal.... go back when doc says it is ok.....if you have(or had) the baby naturally then when ever you feel like you can handle it.... but just remember to let yourself heal... Your body just went through a pretty big ordeal and it is not cool to rush back to work.... Just have fun with your baby until you return to work.... Infants can be great and a lot of fun just get enough sleep or as much as you can. Oh by they way Congrats to you and your new member of the household

you know that you are lucky in your situation-having baby and help nearby
but take it from a professional nanny, nursery teacher and mum of 3 and 1 year old-
your energy and concentration are not the same for ages.......
be careful about easing yourself in a client here and there one week, following week maybe 4-5,and so on
you have not got any idea how tiring birth, recovery, and baby-care is so be kind to yourself, good nutrition, sleep when baby sleeps, understanding clients will wait for you til you are ready.
enjoy your baby
x
good luck

After you stop bleeding, you should be able to. If you're doing too much, you'll start bleeding again. You'll be pretty tired for the first few months, but you'll also be pretty bored after 2 or 3 weeks of staying home.

You should really give yourself 6 weeks to heal. If you go back sooner than that, don't do full days as being on your feet that long won't be good for you....could make it take longer for you to stop bleeding. Maybe a couple of hours a day at first if you go back sooner.
