First off... Depending on the ages of the kids, it might be time to start teaching them to pick up their own crap or your going to throw it away. As soon as they can walk, you should start implementing the pick up after your yourself rules. Secondly, schedule one day a week, like on sundays to do laundry, mondays for vaccuming, tuesdays for this, wed for that... and so on. That way focusing on ONE thing each day is MUCH easier than so many diff things each day. It helps me and my friends are always complimenting me on how nice my house is.

First of all trying to have a spotless house is exhausting and unnecessary.

I have 3 baskets in the laundry room...whites, darks, misc.
I wash & fold up clothes while I'm watching TV in the evening
I tidy the kitchen while I cook & turn the d/w on before bed
I don't actually make the beds...I just adjust the pillow & spread the comforter out
I fix dinners big enough to have leftovers for the next night
I only open the bills and pay them and do the shredding at the beginning each month

The big stuff I have a cleaning service

I hope some of these help you.

This may help you, esp if you need incentive. I clean in breaks. Either during the commercial breaks of my fave TV shows (which I watch while folding clothes etc) or during a fave song. These 3 minutes keep me from getting bored and help me to finish things quickly. Plus, if it is a job I HATE, then I know it will be over when the songs is.
The other night, I cleaned up the kitchen (all but mopping) and did 3 loads of clothes while I was watching a movie. TV can suck your time away from you. Don't just sit & watch it, fold clothes, dust, vacuum (commercial break). I also wrap presents, make holiday goody bags for school, write letters to my family in SC, give the kids manicures/pedicures (over a beach towel) while I "veg out".
You may think my idea of 3 minute cleaning is weird, but if you try it, you may find that you can actually get a lot done. Obviously this works better when your place is already clean and you are just maintaining. I have 3 kids and my places is always "drop in" ready.

Wow... Much sympathy from me! I don't have kids yet, but I imagine it can only be just a bit worse than it is right now! I live with my boyfriend and his fresh-out-of-high-school younger brother, and a cat. I have to feed at least two of those daily; sometimes his brother comes home for dinner. I'm the one who does the dishes, takes out the garbage, cooks, gets the laundry (although his brother does his own, thank god), cleans out the cat's litter, keep both bathrooms in the apartment clean, and pretty much pick up everyone else's stuff.

I guess the best thing I've learned is to just clean up a mess right after it's happened, instead of waiting for someone else to do it (because they ain't gonna!). No matter how many times I admonish them and threaten them, I'm still the only one doing it... Sigh! So I guess I need to see what advice other people have to tell you, too! lol I also listen to music when I'm cleaning up; it makes everything so much better. Sing as you're cleaning, and you'll see that it isn't THAT bad... I hope.

I think it's best, in your case, to set an example by always cleaning up after yourself right away (rinsing dishes, throwing trash in the bin, etc). Good luck!

I have two boys, 10 months and 3 years, and I hear ya. Find a routine. That is the best way to get everything done that you need to in a set amount of time. Oh, and I dont know how old your kids are, but teach them to help. I pile up the laundry and my 3 yr old thinks it is fun to toss it in the washing machine. He also knows to pick up his toys when he is done playing. The best thing I have found though is to get up about 2 hrs b4 my kids and thats when I do most of my cleaning and then I just keep the house picked up.

I do chores constantly. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. Whenever I think of it I quick clean a bathroom or put in a load of wash. For me, if the kitchen and bathrooms are clean and things are picked up, the house is clean. I make it a habit to make the bed before I leave the bedroom and I have my children do so too. They are responsible for the trash, vacuuming, dusting and pets. My older daughter does the dishes almost every night and I do the bigger jobs on one weekend day. I enjoy baking, so when something is in the oven, I tackle the refrigerator, fold a load of clothes or iron. I seldom sit and do nothing. Our home is lived in, but clean enough for company.

I am a busy mom of three and one foster child. I home school my 8yr old daughter and 2 yr old niece. I am also a clean freak. I have found that it's easier to teach my teen boys to do their own laundry and assign them days, and I do the rest. I also only make their beds if their room is clean at least the majority of it anyway. I usually clean twice daily. In the morning I do the big stuff, and before bed I dust again, revaccuum, spot clean the rest of the rooms. It's not easy, it's a constant picking up and cleaning routine.

If you dont' already make your kids pick up after themselves, now would be a good time to start.

Also, designate days for laundry. Like maybe you do towels twice a week, whites once a week, etc.

I clean the house every morning after my husband goes to work. But I work from home, have no kids, and am kind of a clean freak. lol.

Depending on how large your house is, can determine how much you need to clean. Pick up things as soon as they present themselves. Get your kids involved (if they are old enough)in doing chores. Sorry no weird routine to share just that multitasking may help too.

Good luck
Hope this helps

my nanna always said.

if ur beds made ur bedrooms tidy
if the living room is polished/hoovered, ur living rooms tidy.
if the washing-ups done, ur kitchins tidy.
In the bathroom, throw some bleach down the toilet ( flush just b4 the kids get in from school ) & wipe out the bath, now ur bathroom's tidy.
expand from there 2 include more indepth cleaning when 1 u have the time or 2
when it needs doing.
