I don't think "dia de los muertos " is the same as Halloween. Besides, is that Spanish for "Day of the dead"?

Not really,
They are celebrated around the same time of year, however they are completely different celebrations, the dia de los muertos, is to celebrate the life of those who have past, and is a joyful remembrance of ancestors.
Halloween in and of itself has many different meanings, to pagans, or Wiccans, or many other "new ager's" is the Sabot of Samhain, In North America it is not a "holiday" as a time to enjoy dressing up and going "trick or treating" the celebration of Halloween as we contemporarily celebrate it is based on the traditions and beliefs of the Samhain sabot.

Yes its the same thing.
My family says "dia de los muertos" for Halloween or "dia de la brujas".
It just depends on where your from.
Muertos- dead people

I think the concepts may be similar (coming back from the dead, as the person above said), but not the traditions associated with it...
I think for the Day of the Dead, they set up alters to honor loved ones past. And I don't think they do the whole "trick or treating" thing.
Halloween isn't as significant of a holiday. It is more meant for fun...

Pagan holidays are reckoned to begin at sundown, so the eve before is part of the same day of.
So Halloween IS All Soul's day.

No. They are even celebrated a day apart. There are similarities, but they are not the same.
