Is there an increasing amount of "cliques" among young people today? WHY?

Eg. The newly emerged "Scene Kids aka Scensters", the growing epidemic of EMOs, preps, goths, hommie Gs, etc.

With more cliques, less people will be excluded. Very confusing. But more groups to be in, easier to be in group.

Increasing? They've always been there. There were cliques when my parents went to school, when I went to school, and there are cliques now. What these cliques define themselves may be different, but let's face it, there's nothing new under the sun.
