Sometimes, yeah. I recently held out as long as I could, trying to break into another field because I'm tired of working in convience stores, but I couldn't find another type of job (well, I did, but I was fired four hours into my shift when someone who had a lot more qualifications walked in and asked if the position was still open, I was fired and she was hired on the spot)
Convience store work is something that I have done for 13 years now, and as soon as I walked in the door, I was hired (but another person was not fired so I could have the job lol)
It has it's advantages, believe it or not. You would not believe the deals you can find out through word of mouth, and how easy it is to sell something when you need to, or how often you find out when someone is giving something away for free. You also get to the point that you think of some of the customers are sort of your extended family, and you come to care about them.
The drawbacks, and the curse, is that you work many hours at low wage, and once you are labeled as a "clerk" it is hard to get out of that type of work.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cursed" but I'm definitely cursed to be in this same profession forever because I cant afford the pay cut that would come along with a career change.

Otherwise the corporate world just sucks away my soul- but I need to make money somewhere! That is life.

I wouldn't call it a "career". I've been at this job for 15 years and no one will start me out with what I'm making now and I can't afford to take a pay cut. At least I have seniority in the office and 4 weeks vacation every year...

Cursed? nah. I'm the punchline in a really big, lifelong joke.
