I recently bought a Lawn Man mower with a Tecumseh 6.5 HP OV195EP engine in it. Of course I misplaced the owner's manual and now it's time to winterize it and I don't know what to do. Can somebody look up how to do it on their website and let me know? I tried with both Firefox and IE, but my internet connection is so slow that Acrobat froze it right up. Man I love PDFs........

The best way to winterize is to fill the gas tak putting a stabilizer such as stab-il. The tank should NOT be drained because condensation can build up on the walls of the gas tank. Check your oil if its not to black you may as well wait untill spring to change your oil. If it is very black change it, used oil is slightly acidic. To protect your pistons & cylinder you can remove your spark plug & spray a small amount of "fogging oil" into the spark plug hole. With the spark plug replaced, remove the spark plug wire and turn the engine over (pull the cord) this will coat the oil evenly. Replace the spark plug wire and your done.

I never drain the tank, leaves the carb to get gummed up, and condensation to form like stated above.....
Use a fuel stabilizer.... run the engine a few minutes to insure its in the carb.....
Fill it up with treated gas and use a little tinfoil on the gas cap if it has a vent hole on top...
This is the time to change the oil (tec specs straight 30 weight or 10w-30) (20 ounces max) and change the air filter...
Take the plug out (i'd use 2 cycle oil, but you can use fogging oil to engine oil) a ounce down the hole, turn the engine over a few times to distribute and put the plug back in after you cleaned it/gapped or replaced/gapped it.
Clean the deck and oil any bare metal with a spray lube (wd-40, liquid wrench etc)
If its going to be stored indoors (shed) great!!!
Outdoors under a tarp.... I'd recommend a tarp under it to prevent condensation from under it, and a tarp over it (but allow it to vent).. mothballs around it will keep mice from making a home.

verify your warrantied for parts, exertions. I worked at Tecumseh they close the generating facility off 2 ? years in the past It became a good engine . So is Briggs. The carburetor on the Briggs engine became designed by technique of an engineer that worked at Tecumseh's in !965 ? not particular. Any way he had a layout for a clean type of Carburetor,Tecumseh didn't want to modify. So he went to Briggs.i imagine for this reason Briggs remains up and operating. for this reason the Tecumseh is $one hundred more cost-efficient. it really is nice yet get replacements for thus long as you want to save it. i comprehend a guy with a forged iron Tecumseh 3 !/2 Hp engine. i want him to promote it to me. It became good Plus you get diverse muscle pushing it. in case your Briggs remains operating save it

What I usually do with mine is to drain all the gas out of the tank or put Sta-bil in the gas tank to help the fuel from growing stale. Next I clean it up as best I can. Change the oil in it if you have run it extensively this summer. I usually cover mine with a tarp to keep dust off of it. Other than that, just don't put it out in the open - store it in your garage or some out building with a roof.
