Other countries don't effect our policies right? So then why are we stuck in Iraq?

Bush said it- I hear the righties repeat it all the time- "We don't let foriegn countries affect our policies"
So then why didn't we seal the borders of Iraq and do it right?
So then what does it matter?
We are getting slaughtered over there- we are losing more and more ground each day-

I think other countries do, and should, affect our policies. If it was stated they don't, then it was either with regard to a specific policy which doesn't (because some obviously don't) or it was wrong. The U.S. does not exist in a bubble and I think most people realize this. We trade/do business with other countries every day. We also receive and provide monetary to support to many countries. A capitalist society could run no other way.

Not to trivialize the deaths of our service men and women, but 3000 dead in 5 years? Name another war that we have waged that had less American casualties. We have more Americans being shot in America. Iraq is safe compared to our inner cities.
