There is no short answer to this. But it is certainly possible for him to cheat and still want his family. It could be and probably is strictly for the purpose of satisfying sexual desires. If your sexual relationship is the same as it was at the beginning of your marriage you may not be contributing to his cheating for that reason. Some men (and women) get something from the taboo sex and will never give it up. I am a male and know many women who screw around on their husbands so neither sex has a corner on cheating.

While a man can love his family very much, including his wife, if there is a problem in the bedroom he will be very tempted if something comes along.
Once married, especially with children, women loose interest in what brought you together in the first place. Sex now is just one more thing you have to do for him. So....some of us....take advantage of an opportunity because sex....loving.....and all that goes with it is so very important and irresistible to a man.
Not all men cheat. I was married for 37 years and while the opportunity was there I never did. But my wife had no problem with that and we divorced.
There is no easy answer to this age old problem. You should know that now women do it almost as much as men. So sit your husband down and find out why he did this and what is wrong with your relationship that made him do it.
If you think there is nothing wrong....think again.

The answer is very simple. Men cheat for sex, either because they aren't getting enough, or it is boring. Women cheat for love, attention, or revenge.
A man can have sex with a woman and feel nothing for her other than lust. Just because he does it, doesn't mean that he doesn't love his wife/girlfriend that he cheated on, and it certainly doesn't mean that he doesn't love his children.
Just because we have evolved socially in our society, we still are basically animals. Men are wired to seek out targets of genetic opportunity. Most of us resist it because we do not wish to hurt the ones we love.
If you still love the man, take a look at yourself and try to determine if there is anything you can do better. Remember, if he is out of ammo he can't shoot. You can't get wine from an empty bottle. A pencil with no lead can't write.

wow this is a heated topic huh! i really in my heart don't buy the men are men concept. or the whole wife isn't satisfying him so he has no choice. a man cheats because he's selfish and has no impulse control. it's wrong no matter how you paint the picture and as far as still wanting his family...i guess he's only considering his needs for getting what he wants sexually with no responsiblitie but having all the security of a home and family with no return of respect. i think cheaters are the lowest type of people around....

Such men want their families to accept him and his infidelities, but these men are usually intolerant of other's weakness or mistakes. Words to describe these men.........selfish, self-centered, bigoted, dishonest and low.
