Depends on the species of fish - and if it's in a tank, how good the care is. In nature some species of killifish live around a year - They live in puddles which dry up during the dry season (killing the adults), then when it rains again, the eggs hatch out for the next generation.

This web page has a long list of anticipated fish lifespans, with good aquarium care.

"Oscars - 10-18 years"

"The answer varies greatly depending on the species of fish. However, in general smaller fish have a shorter lifespan than larger fish, and fish that lay eggs live longer than those that give birth to live young.

The two most popular species of fish, Bettas and Goldfish are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Bettas live little more than two years, while Goldfish live for decades."

All fish have a different life span. Do a search on google for the type of fish you have, tons of sites will come up and I'm sure they can tell you how long they can live for. Or tell us what types you have and we can tell you.

Many factors can attribute to the longevity of your pet fish.. but the 10-year life span has been stated as an average. but all, as I said before depends on many factors.. food, water type, etc
