Stay at home or working mother. Do you consider being a mom a job? Taking care of your children and making sure that they are well cared for whether doing yourself or choosing the right day care. Bieng a mom is the most important job in the world. Am i wrong? Also do all working moms feel that stay at home moms are lazy sitting and watching tv all day and letting there children run a muck? I am a stay at home mom and don't remember the last time i got to sit and watch any tv unless my children were sleeping ( napping or bedtime) Being a mother and a wife whethere working or not is a full time job. Right?

It is the most important full-time job.....

We don't get sick days...we don't get lunch, or coffee breaks...we don't get to go out of town.....our "boss" calls us at 2:00 am.

None of my working friends think I'm lazy, just as I don't think they are less of a mom because they work.

I am 6 months pregnant and had pneumonia for 3 weeks...my mom helped me a lot and my husband was great but I still had to be mom.....

My husband (who to my knowledge is not pregnant) is sick this week...he is on the couch and I've had to bring him juice, medicine, a pillow from upstairs....a blanket that he couldn't think to ask for at the time he wanted a pillow........He has a cold for crying out loud........

Just life!

I am a stay at home Mom too, I think it is awful when children are shuffled between day care and sitters, I always wondered why some choose to have others raise their children, instead of doing it themselves. I am not directing this to single Moms because I realize you have to do this to have the money to raise your children-I think you are doing a fantastic job!. I am talking to the ones who have husbands that pull in 100,000 a year or more and you think you have to work too., you can do without the fancy SUV's, diamonds and mink coats for a few years to spend time with your children that you brought into this world. I don't think of being a Mom as a job but, a privilege.

I would LOVE to be a stay-at-home mom, but we can't survivie w/ one paycheck, so here I am at work! Being a stay at home mom is a job that unfortunately gets no monetary pay! I took a quiz online and w/ all that I do at work and home, I should get paid $96,000 per year! Boy, wouldn't that be nice? There's always something to be done whether it be cleaning, laundry, cooking, grocery shopping, driving the kids from one activity to the next and so on. The one problem that I think stay at home moms face is that they tend to feel guilty if they don't get certain tasks done. Husbands usually have the attitude, "Well, you're home all day, you should have all this completed!" Oh and did I mention that after you get done all your daily chores that you're still supposed to have time leftover for yourself and then your husband still expects you to have enough energy for sex? Ugh! And they wonder why women use the headache excuse.......LOL

Yeah, it is a full time job either way. Like you said, even if a mom works, she's still responsible for the child's well being by choosing who the child will be cared for by. I work full time, and sometimes it makes me feel bad because I feel like I don't do enough. I mean, a sitter is with my child for almost 9 hours a day! So I almost feel lazy in that aspect, and I definitely respect the stay at home moms (like my sitter) who do so much and make it seem so effortless, too.

Being a responsible mom is a full time job, whether you have 1,2,3 or more kids.I work out from 8 to 5 and when i get home i work and play with them up until about ten. My day restarts at 4:30 to make breakfast, prepare one for school and the other two for daycare and myself for work.I dont have time to sit and watch tv all day.Watching tv for me is watching cartoons with my kids.I know alot more about cartoons than i know about movies!!lol.Even at naptime,i find other house chores to do that i not able to do while they are awake.
Don't beat up yourself about being a stay at home mom, your kids will appreciate and love you more and learn what it is like to take care of a family

Absolutely girl, you have it right. It is the hardest job in the world. You can't go home at 5:00 and leave the work day behind you. And if you are sitting in front of the TV all day everyday eating bon-bons, then you arent being a good mom, however it wouldn't hurt for us moms to do it once in a while for a break...lol.

I'm not a mom, but I plan to continue working full time after I have kids because I want to, and don't have a choice anyway lol. I've asked this question before. I personally view it as a responsibility. I take care of a dog, but I don't consider that a job, it's a responsibility I have in my life. I guess it's hard for me to picture something like that as being a job because I have a job - I don't put my career in the same category, you know? I'm not in any way saying parenting isn't hard work, of course it is. I just can't call it the same thing as my job I go to for only 40 hours a week and that's it. A job, you go there, you do it, you leave and go home and that's it. You dont' do that with parenting, parenting is a responsibility you have 24/7 for the rest of your life.

Being a mom if a fulltime job period. I work fulltime and I would have given anything to be able to stay at home with my son. And yes, your right. Being a mom is the most important job in the world. A very rewarding job. Can be frustrating at times but very rewarding. I don't think stay at home moms are lazy. I am envious of them. I hope they realize how lucky they are to get to stay at home and be with their children. I never had that luxury.

I am at Uni, I have a two year old son, His hursery are great, they tell me everything and i can go there anytime to check on him and ask anything i want. I only go to Uni 3 days a week so I also know what it is like to take care of him full time. Its sooo not easy, and i dont think stay at home moms are lazy, thats rubbish, I think that I have it easier with my son going to nursery a few days a week. They help with teaching him to eat and drink etc.

Yes, it is a full time job, a 24 hour a day job. The most important job there is. Unfortunately some mothers do sit on their butt and let their kids run a muck , which gives all mothers a bad name.
