Both Republicans and Democrats are both for big spending and increasing the size and power of government. I am tired of this, and see parties such as the libertarians and others as more in-tune with what the American citizens are actually saying about and wanting from their elected representitives.

The press does not give candidates from independent parties much exposure. I just read an article on Yahoo that many independents are switching to either the Republican or Democratic party in order to garner votes. I know many people that are unhappy with the Dems and Repubs, but they refuse to vote an independent because they feel that it is just like throwing their vote away. They feel that the independents dont have the money to stage a big campaign and that people do not have enough awareness about the independent candidates.

Maybe partially a lack of funding, but I think a lot of it's a lack of political interest and a contentment to stay where they are. If you're interested in politics it's not hard to find parties other than Democrat and Republican. One party that's impressed me has been the Constitution Party. People overall are becoming more fed up with their traditional parties (I know as a Republican I'm getting more and more fed up with the GOP) and becoming Independents. We have more and more independent candidates running every year, which is a good thing, so maybe in the next decade or so we could start to see more competition in the political realm.

The real reason is that most Americans like getting goodies from the government and forget that they (or their grandchildren) are paying for them. They'd rather have the government take care of things than have to figure out how to run their own lives. They like that the government has the power to force people to stop doing things that offend them, whether it's what they do with their money or what they do in the bedroom.

People say they don't want a big, intrusive government, but their actions speak louder: they vote repeatedly for representatives who keep making the government bigger and more intrusive.

I'm tired of it too, but it's not going to change until enough people are willing to give up their government goodies.

It's the "dumbing down of America". People don't understand the duties for which they elect a public official and they allow themselves to be distracted by appearance and personality, all of which is engineered by PR firms that cost big bucks. Let us not ignore herd mentality, and some misplaced competitive desire to back a winner. Few of our founding fathers would support Dem. or Rep. as they are today. A good motive for voting a third party even if you believe they have no chance of winning is to put the major parties on alert that the platform is gaining support and attracting a following. Then they may adjust to appeal to your vote in the future.

Lack of campaign funding. People's fear of something unfamiliar. Labeling by big parties of smaller ones as "extreme." There is probably a combination of a lot of things. But i think as Americans see the failing of Reps and Dems again and again and that they do want more and more spending and more and more legislation which equals less and less freedoms - Americans will begin to gradually consider third parties.

Yep, its good old American CASH. A third party is what this country needs BUT... the money is with the other two parties and they dont want any more compitition.
The average American is too lazy to think things out and will pick the underdog of one of the two major parties....Sad but true.

It's a question of marketing. Reps and Dems get lots of funding from big business which allows them to advertise and sell themselves. Smaller parties do not have this kind of funding.

Political parties are merely an ILLUSION, because THIS secret and evil group has been in control of everything for far too long!...
