I have dark gray towels that I'd like to give a more thorough cleaning with very diluted bleach along with my wash. Will this fade their color at all?

Addirtionally, per wash, what would be the proper amount of bleach to put in a medium load of laundry in order for them not to fade? 1/4 to 1/2 a cup?

Any amount of bleach will fade your towels, especially if you wash them in it everytime. Try getting some tide with color safe bleach. I have a gorgeous black dress I wash with that and it hasn't faded yet.

If you have your own washing machine and you'd like to clean your towels a bit more thoroughly, put the towels with your regular laundry soap and let the tub fill with the lid up. Add a half a cup of vinegar and let it soak for an hour or two. After that, let the load finish. You can use a laundry booster like an Oxy additive or Borax if you want. Don't use baking soda because there will be a huge foamy reaction with the vinegar.

Bleach will take the color out of most anything. Add it to the water before adding the towels. How much is up to you and the amount of fading you want. Straight bleach will turn them white.

Any bleach will fade your towels to some degree. If I was really concerned about sanitizing them I'd get a sanitizing laundry detergent and wash them in that. That way the towels don't fade.

I add 1/4 cup to my colors on occasion (not with every wash) and they come out fine. This is with a large load, though, so you might want to go with a little less.

not if you use the bleach for colored clothes. The regular bleaches will fade "any" color. Be very careful and not use reg. kind on any color - - - unless you want your very own - - original blah color.

I would not use chlorine bleach on them. Try clorox 2 or oxy wash.
