It has never been a popular way of dressing or being, it is however, in certain cities and countries having a thriving comeback as a sub-culture. By sub-culture I mean that none of its music is on the radio, all of the bands are underground. It does not matter the age: I know many goths who are in their late thirties who are still in love with the dark romance that permeates the sub-culture.

A good book for you to read would be Voltaire's, the gothic-satiric comedian not the theorist, What is Goth? It is an easy read and it is basically a Goth for Dummies.

Fear not. I understand many people's concerns as to what is goth and if it is dangerous simply bc they have no idea as to what it really is. The media tends to lump everything that is dark and creepy into the goth category when in fact goth is a more specific type of music and culture, although there are many different types within the main structure.

Goth does not have a religion! People have asked me that far too often! It is a sub-culture based around the music and the clothes people dress to emulate that music. I have known people from all walks of life who have been goth, so no it is not satanic or evil, but merely a way of someone expressing themself. In fact, a really remarkable band that has beenin the scene since the early 90's are The Cruxshadows. If she is not already listening to them, their name means In the Shadow of the Cross, and I don't think they are specifically Christian per se, but Rogue, the league singer, thought it was remarkable how when Christ was on the cross all his followers fled for their life and the only people there in the shadow of the cross for him were the outsiders and the vagrants and prostitutes of society, the outsiders who then became the insiders through Christ. Inteligent, no?

HOWEVER, if your daughter is also listening to suicidal music, which is not goth based just bc of its suicidalness, and is hurting herself or is all of a sudden not herself, get her help. Goths are not sad all the time, they just like the spooky mood of Halloween is all.

If she is listening to "goth" bands that are on the radio or tha are known at all in the mainstream, that's okay too I guess. Just let her know that if she were to ever enter a goth club she would feel lost and might get made fun of for being a poser. One should always know the history of something before they embrace it fully. Tell her to check out Peter Murphy, with Bela Lugosi's Dead, the supposed first goth song and band Bauhaus.

Well, it's having a bit of a burst in popularity among younger people right now and has had for about two years. Those of us, ah, elder goths are a little mystified by the younger set sometimes since they've got their own way of doing things, but I don't see the gothic subculture dying out any time soon. It's been around almost as long as I've been alive. Most of the goths I know are either over thirty or in high school.

It was never popular. I'm a 13 year old girl who is a real goth. Most people, probably including your daughter, are 'goths' because they like the look of it, it's just their definition of 'cool'. Liking the style doesn't mean that she IS a goth it's nothing to worry about. BUT if she starts doing EXTREMELY abnormal things then be careful.

It's a lifestyle and goths are all ages, although you definitely find more real ones in their twenties and thirties (and so on) than in their teens (you know how people 'try things on' at that age). It's not popular per se, although you can sometimes find more goths in certain areas than others. Hope I've been helpful.

Required? No, yet they do flow properly with the punked out version of the gothic seem. yet I agree, given what else you're wearing, that sheer black with seams could be the final selection. in case you could't, for some reason, locate any, you ought to flow with another texture like lace using fact it seems such as you're blending types, besides. you ought to even locate matching gloves. by the way, good tutor no longer purely wearing all black, looking like dying from Sandman, and calling it good.
