Hi: Always get the unknown (2x here) by itself. We do this by subtracting 5 from the left side of the equation. As long as we subtract 5 from the right side of the equation as well then the
eqution remains "balanced."
-2x + 5 = 13
becomes -2x + 5 - 5 = 13 - 5
-2x = 8
divide- 2x by -2 and do the same division on the right side
-2x/2 = 8/-2
result x = -4

u must solve for x, so first, subtract 5 from both sides.
-2x+5=13
-5 -5 <----- the 5s on the left cancel
then we have: -2x=8 you now must divide -2 to both sides:
-2x/-2=8/-2 which will cancel the -2 on the left and give u....
x=-4
To check ur answer, just substitute -4 in to x from ur original equation. -2(-4)+5=13 and solve
8+5=13
