Well Darling;
• -2x + 5 = 13
• -2x + 5 - 13 = 0
• -2x + ( 5 - 13 ) = 0
• -2x - 8 = 0
• -2x = 8
• x = 8 / -2
• x = -4

Hi: Always get the unknown (2x here) by itself. We do this by subtracting 5 from the left side of the equation. As long as we subtract 5 from the right side of the equation as well then the
eqution remains "balanced."
-2x + 5 = 13
becomes -2x + 5 - 5 = 13 - 5
-2x = 8
divide- 2x by -2 and do the same division on the right side
-2x/2 = 8/-2
result x = -4

u must solve for x, so first, subtract 5 from both sides.
-2x+5=13
-5 -5 <----- the 5s on the left cancel
then we have: -2x=8 you now must divide -2 to both sides:
-2x/-2=8/-2 which will cancel the -2 on the left and give u....
x=-4
To check ur answer, just substitute -4 in to x from ur original equation. -2(-4)+5=13 and solve
8+5=13
13=13 the statement is true, which in change means ur answer is corect.

You want to know your unknown X , so you want an equation that says X = a number
How are you going to get that? By rearranging the equation to get all your Xs on one side and all your numbers on the other. The only rule you need to remember when rearranging your equation is that whatever you do to one side you have to do to the other to keep it in balance.
So you want to get that 5 over to the right hand side to join up with the 13. To do that you just take 5 from both sides giving you...
-2X = 8
Then you want to isolate that X. To do that you divide both sides by -2 giving you...
X = -4
So you've ended up with what you wanted, an equation of the form Unknown = a number. You've solved it for X.

-2x + 5 = 13 (substract 5 from each side)
-2x = 8 (Multiply both sides by -1)
2x = -8( divide both sides by 2)
x = -4
