For the past 20 years every plane I have flown on that landed in Las Vegas, comes in from the South..McCarran Airport sits South-East of the intersection, Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd(the strip) so if you want to see the strip as you land you are going to have to be on the LEFT side of the plane(window seat). You will probably notice the Luxor first as it really stands out, night or day!
I fly in from the East so we see the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead shortly before landing..Las Vegas is almost completely surrounded by Mountains and sits on the valley floor between. You'll be able to see those Mountains clearly to the East or West from either side of the plane...
Depending on wind conditions, takeoffs and landings may be reversed. It does happen, but I think it's fairly rare in Las Vegas.

Coming from the east, you fly through a pass in the mountains. There is usually turbulance when you go through the pass so be prepared for that. It's not much of a view coming in during the day but night time is spectacular. If you are on the right side of the plane and it is a clear night, you can see Hoover Dam all lit up. As you make the approach, you can see the big strip hotels. Hmmm, answering this question tempts me to book a flight to that desert. I love that place.

even before you come to land in las vegas look down...you fly in over the Grand Canyon west rim , you get a great view of Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam, then you fly over the burbs and the 1st land mark you see is the Stratasphere Tower, then the strip....its a fantastic view if sitting on right hand side of plane

Fab!! The MGM Grand really stands out as does the Luxor - as you come into land it is easy to pick out all the major theme hotels because the airport is 10 minutes from The Strip. Strangely you never hear the planes!! Also look out for the slot machines in the airport concourse as you get off the plane - have a great time!!

Depends on which way you come in. From the east, on the left side of the plane you can see Wayne Newton's spread, a few casinos, homes, and parks. On the right, the strip. From the north, on the left side of the plane you can see off strip casinos and homes and parks. On the right side, the strip.

you come in over mountains; you start to see suburbs, then the outer hotels.
ads you approach the airport, the Strip is just to the right - the Luxor looks like it's barely off the airport grounds.
