Death is usually due to brain damage from having a high fever for too long of a time. Take it from me. I didn't think I was running a fever and the nurse asked how long I had that temperature. I said, oh it broke. I had it for a week. She said, it broke? Honey, your temperature is 104. So, I suffered with 106, not realizing how high it actually was for about a week. It did cause me serious problems. About one month later, I had a horrible seizure and didn't wake up for 8 days. I had never had a seizure before. Then, I started hearing things through white noise and still do to this day. I cannot concentrate very long and my short term memory is just awful. Words that used to come to me without so much as a thought are totally lost on me now.
Small children can handle a high fever for longer time periods than adults. If you ever have a fever of 104 or up, get medical help before you hit the 24 hour mark. 106-108 is almost like a heat stroke, if you will. Deadly. And whoever said take Tylenol is giving very filmy advice. You need to find out what and where the infection/virus is so you can treat the problem from its root, not mask it with aspirin while it rages on.
Yes, it can kill you. If it doesn't, the infection coursing through your body will without proper antibiotics. Maybe sooner than later but yes, it can kill you.

PLEASE NOTE -- I AM NOT A DOCTOR. THIS ANSWER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE MEDICAL ADVISE, JUST MY THOUGHTS.
I had a fever of 106.7 when I was about 13 years old. I was taken to the hospital. I may have had some minor organ damage, but since I was young, and was treated quickly, the damage was minimal and most likely healed in its entirety.
Above 107 is when serious damage starts to occur, the higher the temperature, the more rapid the damage. Death is caused by organ failure, not just the temperature. I don't think that 104 is fatal, but it would be harmful, if the person maintained this temperature for any long period of time. If the fever is in a child, call their doctor. In an adult, you could try Tylenol, Motrin or the like, but if the fever does not reduce in 24 hours, contact a doctor.

High fever can not be attributed as cause for death. with 104 degrees nothing can happen. I had 105.5 degrees once when I was 22 years. I was alright after 2 days of medication etc. There is not relevance between high fever and death. It mainly dependent on the condition and physic of the body of the patient. If death occurs while having high fever it may be for some other reason or some other development or infection.

If the fever is not maintained by proper medication, the results can be dangerous. Any fever over 102 without medication/anti-biotics can cause seizures, heart failure, brain damage, etc.. You just need to be on anti-biotics, rest, keep fluids in, sleep, take multivitamins and vitamin c.

104 is certainly not a safe place to be, particularly for any length of time; whether it would be fatal depends on what caused it because there would almost certainly be other parts of the system under assault. It's survivable - the generally accepted fatal level is 108 but not to be trifled with.

104 is TOO HIGH. Death may come between 107 and 108.
But I'd worry about 104!

children commonly run 104 or higher...gets dangerous above that, start to see seizures. in adults we try to keep it under 101, prob 106 would be fatal.
