There is no easy way to tell someone that they stink. I too have worked w/someone who reeked to high Heaven. Depending on your relationship w/this person decide if you can speak to them or leave a nice note saying something like "not to hurt your feelings but in case you are unaware of it, you really need to shower".
Perhaps they don't know.

It is always very difficult, especially if you don't know how he will react to it. When I found myself in your present situation, a chance occurence gave me the long awaited opportunity to tell him. A girlfriend of his, who had some axe to grind with him, called me, and rained abusive words on him, including asking me how we his colleagues tolerated his bad smell. I had thought that I was the only one not comfortable with the bad body odour, since nobody ever mentioned it.
The confirmation I got from his girlfriend that the odour was truly
terrible gave me the courage to face him and tell him the truth, but in a very polite and understanding manner, with genuine words of advice on how the problem could be eliminated or mitigated. It paid off. He took it in good faith, started taking care of himself, and had improved tremendously within a month.

Firstly..I would get some colleagues dressed in a suitable set of protective overalls....then get a couple of guys to jump him and then strip off his clothes..they could be taken away and burned.(both the clothes and the colleague for actually touching him!!)..then bind and gag him...take him outside..using bleach and wire brush scrub him and then hose him down with the fire extinguisher..he should then get the message x

I believe speech is an accepted form of communication between work colleagues, however, should his stench be too much to even approach within hailing distance, email should suffice.

I was a supervisor of a food store and had to tell one of my staff the exact same thing, it is highly embarrassing for both but i just pulled her quietly aside and said it in the nicest possible way. to be honest it should really be up to your work superior to do and not you. just be gentle he probably doesnt realise it or else hes just lazy.

The best way is to confront him in person and give him the friendly advice.
"you probably don't notice this but you have really strong body odor. People will have an easier time working with you if you didn't. It would really help if you wash your clothes, shower before work and wear deodorant."

One way to handle it is to go to your boss and dump the problem in his lap. Just say that his hygeine leaves a lot to be desired, can you intervene?
Once, I worked at a place where one guy picked his nose all the time. (We were dorm counselors at a residential school) I bumped it up to my boss to handle. He had to, lol. The behavior stopped.

I would suggest either making a basket of wash items and putting them on his desk before he comes in in the morning or go directly to your supervisor and ask that he address the situation. You have my sympathy.
