If you get into folk stories and mythology you will see that almost every culture has a story explaining how the oceans became salty. The answer is really very simple. Salt in the ocean comes from rocks on land.

The sea is salty because of the pounding of water against rocks breaking off minerals. Its called erosion.

Because the minerals of the rocks get washed away down the rivers that run into the ocean. the salt gets trapped because, when the water evaporates it leaves the salt behind.
