they would at least need to know the logistics of a US military. I agree with you. It cant be someone who only watches the TV or read the newspaper about military and war. They do need to know. But the major factor is that he/she is a LEADER for his/her nation and not corrupted with greed and selfishness. They need to care about our nation.

Well, from one "doc" to another, the one we have now never really served - he learned to fly and then deserted! He learned, by the way, to fly an already-obsolete airplane in the Texas Air Guard in order to dodge the draft and have to serve in Viet Nam. His was widely known as a "champaign unit" which was never in any danger of being called up. He was advanced to flight school ahead of a good many better-qualified candidates through his father's cynical manipulations and back-room armtwisting. Georgie-boy, in fact, has screwed up everything he's ever attempted in life, including ownership of a baseball franchise and of an oil company (which he drove into bankruptcy). He's screwing up now, to American's immense shame and cost. So do you still think a guy with military expereince necessarily knows how to guide the country through rough times? Naaah! Bill Clinton had no military experience and he left us safe and with the biggest budget surplus in American history, while George has left us immeasureably more at risk from terrorists and with the largest budgetary deficit in history. Dewspite being "commander in chief", George Bush certainly does NOT know what he's doing!

I can honestly say that so long as the person in question has the best interests of the country in mind and surrounds himself with advisors who are the best in their field, miliatary service or not let us look at that as the deciding factor

Yes, I would vote for someone who hasn't served.
The president doesn't actually make any decisions on his own, or even of his own.
He has a team of people who tell him where to go, what to say, and when to say it.
They also tell him what NOT to say.

non vets can be the best presidents. they don't have combat memories to make them hesitate from doing what is necessary. Lincoln never saw combat, neither did fdr or truman, or reagan. kennedy DID see combat, and got us into the failure of viet nam

It has not mattered much to this point, at least not since Eisenhower. I think we need to fire them all, and elect new leaders who choose to be our representatives - NOT - politicians.
