You don't provide enough details for me to give you an easy answer -- so bear with me. My answer is different depending on whether you want a part time program when you are working -- or if you want to take off two years and go full time.

I am of the opinion that it isn't worth getting a full time MBA unless you go to a top school. If you go to a top school, you can expect a big bump in salary and could change fields. If you don't go to a top school, it is more difficult to get a higher paying job and much more difficult to change fields.

So -- if you are working full time in Charlotte and want a part time MBA program that will allow you to get ahead in your current position -- then UNC-Charlotte is fine.

But if you want a full time program so you can make that leap forward -- then I would advise against it. There are at least three MBA programs in NC that are better.

Duke (Fuqua) is a top ten program. UNC-Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler) is a top 20 program. Wake Forest is -- by some accounts -- a top 30 program.

I'd put Wake Forest on the list of good schools where it may pay to go full time. UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke are schools where it would definitely be worth it to go full time.

UNC-Charlotte -- not even close.

My opinion is biased -- but it is informed. I have a Duke MBA, a Berkeley PhD and have taught finance at MIT, Wharton and Maryland.
