There is but you need to search for a job that will allow it. Most councils at some point or every so often are looking for trainee social workers. You can apply for the position as a graduate or a non graduate (but they ask for certain qualifications & experience). You work in their team as an unqualified social worker and carry out a part time degree course in social work or an open university course, which they will fund for you. During the time whilst you are studying you will work in different teams for the experience, and at the end of the course when you are qualified you are guaranteed to have a full time position within that council, but you may have to stay there for a certain number of years as they have paid for your training. But as I say, you have to keep a look out for the jobs to be advertised?

It depends on if you would be studying at a Bachekor level or Graduate level. It's a lot easier at a Graduate level because you can be working at the Bachelor level. The answer that agencies hire only part-time is just not true. For instance, several people at my agency are working on their MSW and actually do their internships at a different department in the agency. They get paid for it! It also depends on the type of social work you are hoping for. Most staring out positions do not pay much because while they require a Bachelor's, they do not always require a degree in social work. If you have a Bachelor's in social work, ask for higher pay. Also, some states allow you to get a social work license with a degree in a related field. All states require you to pass a test (NASWB in the US) and having a license will help.

Most people get a job and go to social work school in the evenings and weekends. Then when they have spent all that money and time, they find out that most social work agencies only hire part time employees so they don't have to pay benefits. Then they either work multiple part time jobs, or they work as a teacher during the day and social worker at night to survive.
