How does Hollywood think it is acceptable? What if a Muslim wanted to make a movie that slandered Israel?

I guess they could if they wanted to. That's the beauty of freedom of speech. If something offends you, don't go see it.

Slander is always wrong.

If the movie is fiction then it's a story and in that regard there is little that is not appropriate. A story about a country is still a story. The only way I can see a story to be under the "destructive power of media" part of your question is when the movie or story is designed to be melicious and to ensite hatred without cause. Again a STORY

If the movie claims truth and is in fact showing the truth, how can it be slander... The truth is not sladerous. If the truth causes people to hate what happened or where it happened... so be it... the truth should never be held back.

1. Muslim nation? Why do people always generalize? Every one must be Muslim to live in the Middle East right? (Even though Kazakhstan is located in Asia) Only 47% of the nation is Muslim. But who cares about the other 53%? Russia has played a huge roll in shaping Kazakhstan so that it is very similar to Russia. But in your opinion if a country is in the eastern hemisphere it MUST be Muslim. Screw the rest.

2. Hollywood did not make this movie it is a British film

3. The point of Borat is not to be offensive it's to point out how ignorant people are. Sacha Baron Cohen shows people like you who say ignorant things to point out the problem we are facing on a global scale. People need to become more aware of the world around them if we want to compete in the global economy.

4. You are a presumptuous a'ss.

Hey well "they" did make a mockery of 911 and flight 93 so does it even matter. Hollywood is a mockery in itself. It's not like people actually respect celebrities or movies. Nothing the "media" or "hollywood" does is right, it's all completley ridiculous. Oh and BTW was it right that some film maker in Britian made a movie about the assination of president Bush and it was a huge hit all over the world? I'm not a fan of the guy but still. It's not just the American media it's the whole shitty world we live in.

Storyline:
Borat Sagdiyev is sent from his village in Kazakhstan to make a documentary about America. He leaves his mother, wife, cousin Vilo and the village rapist to travel to America with his producer.
Late night on cable TV whilst in an American hotel room he discovers Baywatch and in particular the character CJ played by Pamela Anderson. Borat falls in love and then travels across America from Washington DC, through the south and then finally to California where he hopes to meet her.

Clearly, this is a character who is not slandering a Muslim nation. His character is fictional with no intent to slander anyone. He clearly makes a fool of himself to the humor of the audience - that's why this comedy style is such a hit.

Haven't seen the movie so I don't know about the slander. However, would it be wrong to slander a Christian nation, or a Jewish one, or a Buddhist one? Why do you focus on a Muslim nation?

The character in this movie no more slanders muslims than the characters in "Dumb and Dumber" slandered Christians. The movie is based upon the inappropriate things which the character does , not upon his religion.

Its a cruel reality of the power struggle between religions.

A Jew making crude fun of a nation of Muslims is ok and funny.

A Muslim making crude fun of Israel would simply be anti-Semitic. And a Movie like this would never make it to the cinema.

Great question!
